Haut Giffre.
Nature photography, mountain landscapes and hiking. Photos of Haut Giffre.
Stretching from the Arve valley to the end of the Sixt valley, the Haut-Giffre is a massif defined by its verticality. Its best-known site is the Cirque du Fer-à-Cheval, a great natural amphitheatre where numerous waterfalls plunge straight from the cliffs, and where mist often makes an appearance, lending the cirque an almost mystical atmosphere. It's in this area that you'll find Mont Buet, the massif's highest summit, reaching 3,096 metres. In contrast with these sheer walls, the Désert de Platé offers an entirely different setting: a vast limestone pavement plateau with a lunar appearance. Between these cliffs and this mineral world, it's a highly varied playground for photography.
